Our Windermere

Field recordings, interviews and musical improvisation
Performed by Lucy Nolan and Isobel Mortimer

Windermere, in the heart of the Lake District, is special to so many people. But can it sustain its own popularity?

Bringing together found sound, community voices and improvised music - for any group of instruments - this piece is both a celebration and investigation of the ways in which we live, work and play in this unique place, and what that means for its future.

'Our Windermere' was displayed as part of an exhibition at Brewery Arts by Great Place: Lakes and Dales in 2022.

Inhabit - SHOAL
Online collaboration using found sound, sound processing, instrumental and vocal improvisation
What does it mean to rewild?

In this excerpt of 'Inhabit', each SHOAL member must choose how to inhabit the sonic landscape inherited from the previous generation. Tensions arise between conserving marks left by previous inhabitants, desire to perfect 'flaws' and create beauty - or pursuing our own ideal of 'wild'.
